Day 10 - Southeast Asia
Gift of one Bible leads many to Christ
Nguyen and his family suffered like millions of other people during the regional war. During this time he devoted his prayers and worship to Buddha and ancestral spirits. But he never found peace.
Nguyen began to search for a “new light”, something to bring comfort and hope to his life. One evening he came across a revival meeting at a local evangelical church.
“I went inside and for seven evenings I listened continuously without feeling tired,” Nguyen said. “The pastor gave me a Holy Bible and I put it on the altar of my dead ancestors because I respected the Word of the Lord.”
Because he lacked friends who could disciple him, on the odd occassions that he did read his Bible, Nguyen did not take God’s Word into his heart. For many years turmoil and tragedy ruled his life. He lost everything in a house fire—everything but his Bible.
This time when Nguyen was prompted to open his Bible, he read, “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” (John 14:21 NIV) The message went straight to his heart and transformed his life.
Nguyen sought out a local pastor and confessed his sins. He began attending church services and Bible League’s Project Philip Bible studies. He learned how to share the Gospel with his family and others. Now, he is a faithful servant who attends Bible League’s Church Planter Training.
“I always pray for the evangelistic mission of the church and I hope to spread Christianity to many lost souls and lead them back to the Lord.”
Through the gift of one Bible many years ago, Nguyen has repented of his past, given his life to the Lord and is now sharing the Good News with others.
