Day 4 - Southeast Asia
A growing need for Bibles and training
In some countries of Southeast Asia, Christians have become marginalised and persecuted. There are restrictions on church meetings and evangelism. Yet, even amidst this, God is at work.
Bible League-trained Christians are coming alongside Christians in churches to help them reach more people for Christ and raise up strong leaders through Bible League’s Church Planter Training program.
“This training can be applied everywhere since it is modified to fit the context and does not need a physical church building,” a Bible League worker said. “Instead, we have gatherings of believers meeting in house churches.”
As the number of new believers grow so does the need for more Bible League-trained people and Scripture materials.
“There is a great need for pastors, lay leaders, and church members to have Bibles, Bible study materials and training,” the Bible League worker said.
Sihom, a pastor in Southeast Asia, bravely serves God by reaching out to others in his community with Christ’s love. He uses Bibles and study materials—especially designed by Bible League—to disciple new believers.
“I am thankful for all these materials which have assisted my ministry,” he said. “These books are like instruments or swords to help reach out to new contacts so that they may clearly understand and come to know the Lord Jesus. This enables them to make the most important decision in their lives—to follow the Lord. I am thankful to Bible League’s ministry, which has encouraged my spirit to serve.”

Why do children need Bibles in Southeast Asia?
Most children living in Southeast Asia have very different lives to children in Australia.
Around 85 percent of people in Southeast Asia live in poverty. That means that 1 billion families are living on less that $2 a day! Because of this, a lot of children don’t get enough food to eat. They have to leave school at a young age to work and provide for their families. Sometimes they are forced to work in dangerous jobs or their parents sell them for money. Many of these children do not know that God loves them, nor have they heard of Jesus.
Through Bible League’s Scripture Placement ministry and Project Philip for Children Bible studies, 330,000 million children in Southeast Asia received a Children’s Bible last year.
When kids learn about the Gospel message of Jesus and receive a Bible, many of them also share their new faith and Bible with their families. As a result, entire families are coming to know Christ! Lives are changing as they find hope and salvation in Jesus.
But we are always in need of more Bibles! In some Southeast Asian countries, one in three people are under 14 years of age. There are so many children who are yet to hear about Jesus.
