Senegal—46 new churches planted

In 2006 Bible League planted 46 new churches in Senegal. This was an increase of 2.7 times greater compared to the year before. Many of these churches are among communities where there is no presence of the Gospel. “This is astounding in a country that is 92% Muslim,” says Bible League’s National Director in Senegal.

Through the provision of Scriptures, training and Bible study materials, Bible League is able to help new believers to grow in their faith and to become effective church planters. “Many Christians who have completed the Project Philip Bible League Bible studies are simultaneously sensing a call to church planting. This is a phenomenon unique to Senegal,” says the National Director.

Despite severe opposition, God has opened opportunities for Bible League to bring the gospel to areas which are totally Muslim. One female Bible League-trained Church Planter was even able to start a Bible study group in a military school which originally denied women access.

Due to these efforts, last year Bible League was able to graduate 10,307 people from the Project Philip Bible study, baptise 1,288 new believers and place 74,900 Scriptures and Bible study materials in Senegal.

Two newly translated Wolof and Serer Bible study materials support the Scripture placement ministry. With these evangelism and discipleship tools, Bible League will be able to reach the 4,426,000 Muslim Wolof and 1,213,000 Serer people—the two of the largest unreached people groups in Senegal.

"The poor and needy search for water, but there is none… I will turn the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into springs."
(Isaiah 41: 17-18, NIV)
“Senegal is a dry land geographically and spiritually but God is pouring out His Spirit on the primarily Muslim and historically resistant populations of this country,” says Bible League’s National Director in Senegal. Encouraged by God’s Word in Isaiah 41:17-20, the National Director is committed to make this promise a reality to those who thirst for “living water”. Will you help people in Senegal receive God’s Word? Provide Scriptures for Africa now.
