Australia—Scripture Placement and training remains the focus of Bible League’s ministry
“Scripture Placement and training remains the core focus of Bible League’s ministry,” says Grahame Smith, Bible League’s National Director in Australia, who reaffirmed Bible League’s mission yesterday at the annual staff retreat which was held in Penrith, Australia.
“We are devoted to ‘put the Bible to work’ through strategic evangelistic and discipleship Bible studies. This ensures that the Scriptures placed are effectively used and become understandable. Through our partnership with local churches, Bible League helps bring people into fellowship with Christ and His Church,” says the National Director.
Since the ministry started in 1938, Bible League has placed more than 712 million Scriptures in more than 400 languages to people in over 78 countries. This is done through more than 27 million Bible studies completed worldwide since 1989, which has led more than 3.7 new believers to be baptised and become committed church members. This figure reminds us of God’s grace and the power of His Word changing people’s lives for eternity.
Grahame Smith, who has just returned from his field trip to Ethiopia, shared his first hand experience of seeing the impact of God’s Word. “People’s lives are changed by God’s Word. I heard a testimony of how some believers helped build houses for six widows in their village. This is the proof of how new believers learnt to live out their faith in love.” (To read the report, click here.)
Speaking on the ministry vision, Grahame Smith announces that Bible League will focus on the global south where the need of the Gospel is recognised.
The global south includes regions in South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. These are the regions where Christianity is growing rapidly. They are also the places where persecution of Christians occurs. There are more than 200 million Christians worldwide who are under severe persecution, while around 400 million Christians are under great risk. India and China are two areas where persecution is intense. In 2006, Bible League was able to place in these two countries a total of 2,301,888 Scriptures, which was nearly 12% of the total Scriptures placed last year.
“We are committed to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit to channel our resources to areas of need,” concludes the National Director.
