China - God's Word empowers faith to grow

Asia testimonies
She thought she wasn't good enough to be loved by God.
She thought "believing" was enough; she didn't need to pray for others as well.
When she received a Bible she finally understood and learned the power of prayer.

ometimes we feel we are not close to God, not because we don’t want to but because we don’t know how. That’s what May felt like. For 14 years, she struggled with her faith, unable to shake the shame of being different. She didn’t understand why she was not growing in faith, until God’s Word transformed her.

“From the time I was a child, I’ve felt inferior because I do not have a front tooth,” she explains. “My classmates would tease me, which made me angry and sad. I grew up to be a person of few words. Perhaps, because of this, I did not even know how to get close with God.”

May first received salvation through Jesus at age seven. From that time on, her mother always told her to pray. “However, I would fall asleep after a few words of prayer. My mother would say that I needed to be a doer and not a hearer only. I always wondered what wrong I had done to inhibit my growth,” May explains.

“I didn’t understand why my mother always prayed for relatives, friends, her church and China. I thought it was sufficient that I just believed in Jesus as my Saviour. I didn’t understand why we needed to pray so much.” she recalls.

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."
(1 Timothy2:1-4, NIV)

When a Bible League-trained Christian gave May her own copy of the Bible to read and study, for the first time God’s Word spoke to her heart. A passage from 1 Timothy, which says that believers should pray for everyone so that they may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness, made a great impression on May.

“The Bible teaches me not to be jealous or envious but to love others. I prayed that God would take away my jealousy. He listened to my prayer and took away my jealous heart. I feel more peaceful now,” says May.

“Now I will trust the Lord to guide me in my life and I thank God that He gave us Jesus Christ so that we can understand His Word better.” Now May understands God’s Word and carries out what He commands. She is growing in her faith.

The transformation that took place in May’s life happened because she had the opportunity to read God’s Word. God’s word of truth enlightened May’s understanding so she was empowered to grow in faith. But there are still at least 50 million Christians in China who don’t have a Bible. Their understanding of God’s truth would increase and their faith would be strengthened—if they, like May, have the opportunity to read God’s precious Word. Will you help provide Bibles for China? Your partnership with us will provide Scriptures for China and will impact lives, just like May.
